About Me

I am elementary music teacher with a bachelors in music education from Northwestern College in St. Paul, MN.  Since a very young age I have always LOVED music.  I feel very strongly that teaching kids about music is my calling.  I have been teaching in the classroom for 7 years.  When I started in college I thought I was going to teach high school choir until I had my first placement in an elementary music class and it forever changed me!  I truly believe I have the best job in the world!  I mean, who wouldn't love to play, sing, dance, and play music games with kids?!  It's a blast and I pray I can do it for as long as my mind and body allow me.

This blog is intended for fellow music educators.  I do not claim to be an expert, but I LOVE sharing ideas with others and, in return, learn new things from them as well.  Pinterest has been a wonderful resource to get linked with fellow music educators like myself and share ideas for lesson plans, classroom organization, performances, instruments, etc.  I hope that my blog can be another resource for those out there looking to enhance the craft of teaching elementary music.

I currently teach K-4 in Fridley, MN, which is an International Baccalaureate (IB) district.  I will be posting more about what it's like to be a music teacher for IB.

In my spare time I help my husband run a bicycle music ministry called Spoke Folk.  Briefly explained, it's a 12-day youth mission trip (15-20 year olds) in a particular state where we bike from church to church doing a concert/program in the churches we go to.  That's what we do, but it's so much more!  For more information, check out www.spokefolk.org. When teachers are using the summers to relax and rejuvenate for the next school year, we are traveling all over the continental US getting the bike tours ready and of course going on one of the tours ourselves.  For me, I get rejuvenated in a different way through this life changing ministry and I get pumped to start a whole new school year afterwards.

  1. I love IB! I miss teaching music in an IB school so much. I'll be living vicariously through you!
